Thank you. I'm thankful that this perfect opportunity just fell into my lap, along with the money to buy him.
I really don't think I'm depriving a rescue horse of a home by buying him, because if the option to buy him didn't happen, then I wouldn't be getting a horse at all. It would be nice if people didn't jump to conclusions and make harsh judgments without knowing the whole story. |

My mule was bought, too, so you are not alone. I couldn't adopt because I don't own land - my house in the suburbs is too small.
Unlike pet rescues, which are a dime a dozen, there are fewer horse rescues, so finding one to work with is difficult, especially when most won't adopt out of state. I can think of 3 horse rescues in Ohio right off the top of my head, 2 in Michigan. There are 5 dog rescues just in the metro Toledo area. So reality is, it is much harder to adopt a horse than a dog or cat. _________________

And we all know how we fear to get pulled over by those flashing blue lights!! Especially if we have done nothing wrong!!

So someone buys an animal, posts about it on a rescue board, and then we're going to act surprised when someone has something to say about it?
I can see what you are saying about horse rescues being different, but again this is a rescue board. If this was a dog, people would be flipping out.
I realize a lot of you don't like moons, but I know her off the boards (if not in real life, but still-- better than some know her). She is a very passionate rescuer, getting her hands dirty in ways many of you don't. I also know that she is very human and has feeling and emotions not unlike you who are making fun of her. If you disagree with what she posts, that's fine. But to act so childish... come on. She's posting because it hurts her to know that people are buying horses while others are being slaughtered and neglected due to lack of homes. You people are picking at her... why? Because you don't like what she posted?
I hesitate to post because I'm not looking forward to the negativity that will inevitably follow, but really. We used to talk about the "flocks of seagulls" circling to gang up and pick on other posters, and here we have it. Just like old times, only the no-nonsense poster is the one being picked on.
PF seems quieter over the past year or so, but I think that's just people posting less, and fewer posters, overall. On one hand, it's nice to have less drama, but at the same time, things are becoming acceptable that at one time wasn't. Outdoor cats? Eh, maybe. Declawing? Hmm... perhaps. Buying dogs? Well, under the right circumstances, sure!
So what is this board becoming? A year from now, will people be posting pictures of their beloved dog's puppies, with a "suitable" explanation saying it's, "Just one litter," and that everyone they know wants a puppy, but those people don't want rescues, so the puppies don't actually contribute to overpopulation? I see it all the time on other (non-rescue) boards, with everyone saying, "Aw, cute puppies!" and all naysayers being shunned as bullies and "fun-polices."
The above is why I avoid the pet sub-forums on the other boards I go to. I come to PF instead, to be around people who actually care about pet rescue, and are dedicated to stopping overpopulation. But, anymore? I might as well go to the "My dog had puppies!" threads on the other boards and cheer them on along with the other posters. I would hate to be a fun-police, and I don't have any blue lights to flash, sorry. |

| Right. I'm done here. Some people apparently can't read and continue to talk about the same off-topic drama. See some of you on facebook yeah? |

What do you propose? Seriously. Do you propose that horses "for sale" be slaughtered instead? If someone calls the cost an "adoption fee", it's all good but if they say they have a horse "for sale", then the horse doesn't deserve a home? I don't get that at all. |

I completely get that there are horses in rescue but obviously, Aurelia jumps horses for her hobby. She is familiar with the person who trained this horse for jumping. It is something that just fell into her lap, she wasn't looking for it.
Horses are still used for jobs. This horse is trained to jump. My Smokey would be dangerous to jump with...he is definitely not a jumper. It would be like using a golf club to play tennis but you could die trying to make it work.
If she was just looking for a trail horse, an adoption could be ideal. This is just not the case. _________________ If you can read this, thank a teacher.
